What Is Himalayan Pink Salt?

Increasingly popular and often preferred, Himalayan Pink Salt is mined near to the Himalayas in Pakistan.

With it’s completely natural pink appearance, it’s certainly more visually appealing than the salt we are all accustomed to - but does it have any benefits and why do we at Rollagranola use it?

As we all know, too much salt has a string of health warnings attached. But it is actually salt which is imperative for us to have as it plays it’s part in fluid balance, nerve conduction and muscle contraction. So, whilst we must always be mindful that we don’t overuse, we have to make sure we’re fitting it into our diets.

Himalayan Pink Salt is, still to this day, extracted by hand with the smallest amount of processing to produce an unrefined, pure ingredient. Compare this to the processes that table salt goes through, and it’s clear for us to see why it’s widely accepted to be far more natural than counterpart.

Due to the lack of processing and it’s natural extraction, Pink Himalayan Salt keeps all of it’s minerals and trace elements (up to 84 it’s been estimated!) which would otherwise have been processed out.

The Pink Salt mines have actually become somewhat of a tourist destination! With people flocking there due to its supposed benefit of improving skin and respiratory issues.
