Four Recipes to Transport You During Lockdown

As the world stays home, many of us are dreaming of our next getaway from the comfort of our sofas. Whether you’re looking forward to a cultural city break or beach retreat, experiencing local cuisine is often at the very heart of any overseas adventure.  With many of us lacking inspiration in the kitchen and unable to visit our favourite destinations, we’re sharing four recipes you can create from the comfort of your very own home, with the hope that you’ll find yourself transported (even just for a few moments!) to a different time zone...

  1. New York Cheesecake

An all-American classic, New York Cheesecake is perhaps one of the most iconic dishes from the USA. Indulgent, creamy and the ultimate quarantine treat, a traditional New York style cheesecake is characterised by its smooth, almost velvety texture and undeniable richness. Check out this simple recipe here, which hopes to transport you to the bright lights of Times Square. Why not add your own twist, adding a few handfuls of your favourite Rollagranola into the base or simply sprinkled on top for a little added crunch!

  1. Turkish Baklava

An irresistibly sweet dessert pastry made from intricate layers of filo filled with chopped nuts, honey and spices, baklava of the Turkish variety traditionally uses pistachios. Also known as ‘Fistikli Baklava’ this tasty creation dates back to the Ottoman Empire and although its exact origin is hard to pinpoint, this version and its unique flavour will leave you planning your next trip to Turkey. While it might take a few hours to make, even the freshly baked smell is guaranteed to transport you to another place.

  1. Italian Gelato

One of the world’s culinary capitals, Italy’s cuisine is worth travelling for. With travel-bans in place, you might not get to visit anytime soon but this Italian Gelato recipe should satisfy any cravings. Dating back to the 16th century with the art passed down through generations, gelato is best enjoyed on sunny days. To make your scoop even more exciting, add lashings of Rollagranola during the churning process for added texture. We recommend Pecan Maple Twist.  Close your eyes and you’re (almost!) on the Italian Rivera!

  1. Bali-Style Smoothie Bowl

For a breakfast that is both healthy and Instagram-friendly look no further than a Balinese style smoothie bowl. Having become synonymous with Bali due to the island’s numerous smoothie bowl bars, these bowls of goodness are actually really easy to re-create in your own home.  Colourful and creative, this recipe uses our Zesty Caveman Granola for a truly tropical experience.

While we can’t promise these recipes will curb your wanderlust, hopefully they do provide a delicious alternative to your everyday routine! Please share your creations with us on social media by tagging @rollagranola. Bon appétit!
